Learning Analytics Summer Institute Spain 2023 (LASI Spain 2023) (https://lasi23.snola.es), will take place in Madrid, organized by SNOLA (the Spanish Network of Learning Analytics) and will have Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) as a host. LASI Spain is part of the global LASI network (https://www.solaresearch.org/events/lasi/), conceived as a platform to catalyze educators, technologists, researchers, enterprise and policymakers around shaping the next generation of learning infrastructures to truly serve the needs now facing the education sector.
Learning Analytics has been called to improve learning practice by transforming the ways we develop and carry out learning and teaching activities and processes. The Horizon Report 2022 mentions LA as the first of 3 key technological trends in its overview of the future of teaching and learning. To this aim, Learning Analytics draws on a variety of methods and techniques, including those of artificial intelligence. The increasing awareness about the potential benefits and risks of AI has to be translated to how Learning Analytics affects the lives of its users. To that aim, Learning Analytics can benefit from the increasing number of works and proposals that tackle trustworthiness in AI, and at the same time, research on Learning Analytics should contribute to this conversation by reflecting on and highlighting what is specific to the educational domain. Which ethical aspects should we consider when applying AI-based methods to LA tools? In which ways the educational context adds new requirements to the consideration of ethical concerns? At the same time, many challenges still remain to reach all the potential benefits attributed to LA, and there exist open debates regarding the evolution of learning analytics and its consequences on learning and on the educational system overall. Papers reflecting on these challenges and contributing with new knowledge to the application of LA will be welcome.
The Call for Papers of LASI Spain 2023 invites researchers across the globe to submit original research and work in progress that further contributes to advances in the field.
LASI Spain 2023 welcomes both quantitative and qualitative work related to the topics of interest within the broad theme of adoption of learning analytics, and aims to cross interdisciplinary boundaries that help expand our understanding of current and future trends in learning analytics.
The LASI Spain 2023 Doctoral Consortium is an important space for PhD students to present and discuss their research in the field of Learning Analytics. Selected PhD students will have the opportunity to present their work in a collaborative and constructive environment and receive valuable feedback from experts in the field. In addition, the Doctoral Consortium provides an opportunity for doctoral students to interact with their peers and make connections with other researchers with similar interests. This forum will provide an enriching experience for doctoral students in the field of learning analytics and help them advance their academic careers. We invite PhD students to submit their work for consideration in the LASI Spain 2023 Doctoral Consortium.
LASI Spain 2023 aims to address state-of-the-art advances in learning analytics, and to gather multidisciplinary but complementary approaches from different fields, such as Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Education, Sociology and Psychology. This Call for Papers is open for submissions covering the following topics:
Research papers
Papers presenting original research in the area of learning analytics. Work-in-progress and other types of innovative research will also be welcomed.
Workshop Proposals
Proposals of interactive half-day events focused on a topic of interest for the community
Doctoral Consortium
Descriptions of PhD proposals in the area of learning analytics
Demos
Description of a tool demo, to be shown at the conference.
Relevant papers already published
A selection of relevant papers already published will be presented at the conference. Authors that aim to present their published work should submit a summary of up to 2 pages. This summary should state clearly the data of the original paper on which it is based.
Submissions (with the exception of workshop proposals) should be sent via EasyChair, following these steps:
Abstracts will be reviewed through a double-blind review process by at least two members of the international committee. Notification of acceptance will be sent by June, 10th, 2023.
The authors of the accepted abstracts will be given the possibility to extend their work using the same template for publication (see below). At least one of the authors should register to the conference before June, 15th 2023 to present the work. LASI Spain 2023 will be a face to face conference, and we will promote physical presence of presenters, but online format will be offered if necessary.
Accepted research papers that have been extended and presented at the conference will be submitted to CEUR-WS for publication. We will distinguish the following formats:
LASI Spain 2023 will recognize the best paper of the edition (selected by the committee of the conference).
Authors with best papers will be invited to prepare and submit extended versions to be considered, after a new peer review, for publication in special issues in scientific journals.
LASI Spain 2023 has no registration fees (it's free!), but registration is required to allow you access. (Registration will open on May 31st, 2023).
